Özet
Public space is not a phenomenon that can only be defined by its physical boundaries. The way that people inhabit spaces has an effect on the production of urban public spaces. Today, in addition to its physical boundaries and people’s use of physical space, the production of urban public spaces is linked to the integration of the virtual with the physical. As a result of the virtual space superposed on physical space, the concept of hybrid space is revealed. This study aims to examine the effects and potential of hybrid space in the production of urban public space. In this context, the study examines the forms in which hybrid space emerged in urban areas and these forms were classified under three headings. The hybrid spaces that emerged in various forms will make different contributions to the generation of new public urban spaces. These contributions are outlined in the discussion. As a result, the study opens a debate on the hybridization of urban space and offers suggestions about its contributions to everyday urban public life. © 2023 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
