Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) has become more widespread in many industries in recent years due to its prominent features, such as high production speed, ease of application, and large production volumes. Stainless steels, commonly used in many engineering applications where corrosion resistance is critical, are also widely processed using the WAAM method. In the WAAM process, which shares significant similarities with welding, commercially available welding wires currently constitute the base material. However, these welding wires may have different compositions than the materials they are intended to join, considering weldability and the expected properties of the welded region. Additionally, the high temperatures generated during the welding process can lead to changes in the proportions of alloying elements in the composition. In this study, the tribological properties of parts produced by WAAM using four different stainless steel wires (SS307, SS308, SS309, SS316L) were comparatively investigated. For this purpose, samples obtained from austenitic stainless steel walls produced under identical conditions using WAAM were first subjected to composition analysis using a spectrometer. Hardness measurements were conducted on both the cross-sections and side surfaces of the samples using the Vickers hardness method. Subsequently, all samples were tested under identical conditions using a reciprocating tribometer to examine their friction and wear behaviors. The samples were also subjected to stress-relief annealing at 400 °C for one hour, and their hardness behaviors and tribological performances were re-evaluated after annealing. The examinations revealed changes in the chemical composition of the samples after the WAAM process. Additionally, it was observed that heat treatment influenced the tribological properties and hardness values of all the samples studied. Comparisons and discussions have been made regarding the results before and after the heat treatment.
