Reactions of cyclotriphosphazene with 1,6-diaminohexane and 1,8-diaminooctane: Mono-ansa, double- and triple-bridged derivatives

The reactions of hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene, N3P3Cl6 (1), with 1,6-diaminohexane (2a) and 1,8-diaminooctane (2b), having long carbon chains, in acetonitrile have been investigated. The reactions gave three different types of products, whose structures have been characterized by elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, H-1 and P-31 NMR spectroscopy, viz, the triple-bridged compounds N3P3Cl3[NH(CH2)(n)NH](3)N3P3Cl3 [n = 6 (a series); n = 8 (b series)] (3a, 3b), the mono-ansa compounds N3P3Cl4[NH(CH2)(n)NH] (4a, 4b) and the double-bridged compounds N3P3Cl4[NH(CH2)(n)NH](2)N3F3Cl4, (5a, 5b). X-ray crystallographic studies confirmed the structures of the two ansa compounds (4a, 4b) and the meso-anti double-bridged compounds (5a, 5b). The results of both reactions were compared with previous work on the reaction of compound 1 with the same diamines (2a, 2b). (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
