Abstract

Sosyal sermaye ve güven son zamanlarda üretim faktörlerinin yanı sıra ekonomik büyümenin itici güçleri arasında yer almaktadır. Ayrıca, sosyal sermaye ve güvenin bireyler, kurumlar, sosyal düzen, toplumsal dengeler, ekonomik ve sosyal ilişkiler gibi etkileri, çok disiplinli birçok alanda popüler olması, ayrıca uygulamalı ve kurumsal alanlarda ön plana çıkması, bu konuyu çalışmamızdaki itici güçlerdendir. Bu yüzden, tezde sosyal sermaye ve onun bileşenlerinden biri olan güvenin farklı bağlamlarda ilişkisi ele alınacaktır. Çünkü amacımız sosyal sermaye ve güvenin literatürdeki bütünleyici ilişkisini ortaya koymaktır. Birbirinden farklı ama bütünleyici nitelikteki üç ampirik çalışma üzerinden yürütülen bu tez, hukuki yapılar, göç dinamikleri ve küresel üretim ilişkileri ile sosyal sermaye-güven arasındaki ilişkiyi çok boyutlu bir bakış açısıyla ele almaktadır. Birinci bölümde, sosyal sermaye ve güven ilişkisinin kavramsal ilişkisine değinilmiştir. İkinci bölümde hem hukukun üstünlüğü hem de hukukun naklinin ya da ithalinin güven üzerindeki etkileri araştırılmaktadır. Bulgular, yasal sistemin güven üzerindeki pozitif etkisini ortaya koymaktadır. Hukukun nakledilme şeklinin hukukun etkinliği üzerinden toplumdaki bireylerin güven seviyesini etkilemektedir. Diğer ülkelerden ithal edilen hukukun hangi hukuk ailesine ait olduğu fark etmeksizin, eğer bir ülke hukuku aldığı orijin ülkeyle kültürel olarak yakınsa ya da aşina ise, bu hukukun etkinliğini artırır ve hukuk etkinliği de güven seviyesini artırır. Üçüncü bölümde sosyal sermaye üzerinde göçün etkisini inceliyoruz. Göç alan ülke ile göç edilen ülke arasındaki kültürel mesafe göçü etkiler bu etki de göç üzerinden sosyal sermayenin azalmasına neden olur. Bu nedenle, göçün olumsuz etkilerini ortadan kaldırmak için ev sahibi ülkelerin, iş birliği, etkileşim ve uyum içeren politikalar ile sosyal entegrasyonu desteklemesi gerektiğini vurgulamaktadır. Genelleştirilmiş güvenin küresel değer zincirine katılımı nasıl etkilediğini ithalatçı ve ihracatçı ülkeler için dördüncü bölümde ele alıyoruz. Sonuçlarımıza göre, güven, küresel değer zincirine katılımını artırmaktadır. Güven özellikle karmaşık ticari ilişkilerde önemli olmaktadır. Tez sosyal sermayenin ve güvenin, sosyal, kurumsal ve küresel ağ perspektifini farklı bölümlerde kapsamlı bir şekilde araştırarak literatüre önemli bir katkı sağlamaktadır. Dört bölüm sonuçları birlikte değerlendirildiğinde; sosyal sermaye ve güvenin, ülkelerin ticari ve ekonomik dinamiklerini, sosyal entegrasyonu ve uluslararası etkileşim yeteneklerini etkileyen stratejik unsurlar olduğunu açıkça göstermektedir.Social capital and trust are the key drivers of economic growth, alongside factors of production. The increasing recognition of social capital and trust across many multidisciplinary fields—including its effects on individuals, institutions, social order, social balance, and economic and social relations—and its prominence in applied and institutional contexts, form a central part of our study. Therefore, this thesis examines the relationship between social capital and trust in different contexts. We aim to reveal the complementary relationship between social capital and trust in the literature. This thesis, conducted through three distinct yet complementary empirical studies, investigates the relationship between social capital and trust from a multidimensional perspective, including legal structures, migration dynamics, and global production relations. The first chapter explores the conceptual relationship between social capital and trust. The second chapter examines both the legal system and its transplantation, exploring their impact on trust. The findings demonstrate the positive impact of the legal system on trust. It emphasises that the transplant law influences trust levels within society through the law's effectiveness. Specifically, if the receiving country is familiar with, culturally close to, or has adapted to the imported law, this enhances the legal system's effectiveness, which, in turn, leads to higher trust levels. In the third chapter, we examine the impact of immigration on social capital from the perspective of host countries. The findings indicate that immigration can negatively affect social capital when the cultural distance between the host country and migrants increases. Therefore, we emphasise that host countries should support social integration through policies that include cooperation, interaction, and harmonisation to mitigate the adverse effects of migration. In the fourth chapter, we examine how generalised trust affects participation in the global value chain for importing and exporting countries. Our results indicate that trust promotes participation in the global value chain. Furthermore, trust is particularly important in complex production networks, and the level of trust in the importing country has a greater effect on participation in the global value chain. The findings in each chapter clearly demonstrate the importance of social capital and trust, and their roles across various dimensions. With four chapters, the thesis offers a comprehensive contribution that integrates the institutional, social, and global production dimensions of social capital and trust. When synthesised, the results of the four chapters clearly demonstrate that social capital and trust are strategic elements that influence trade and economic dynamics, social integration, and countries' international interaction capabilities.
