Özet

In the realm of avionics hardware design verification, there arises a critical need for robust hardware and software infrastructure to conduct functional tests effectively. The MIL-STD-1553 standard simplifies data transfer between sensors, computers, indicators, and other aircraft equipment, enhancing electromagnetic compatibility, reliability, and fault tolerance of subsystems. However, the current state of access methods reveals the inherent challenges posed by their bulky and user-unfriendly hardware interface. To address these challenges, in this work, we propose a USB-based interface adapter for the MIL-STD-1553 bus. This innovative hardware interface uses USB technology to provide a compact and efficient means of connecting to the bus, making it more user-friendly and efficient for both development and debugging purposes. The portable nature of the USB-1553 adapter offers significant advantages, allowing for flexible deployment in various environments as well as eliminating the need to procure specialized instruments for automated testing, thus allowing cost savings and resource optimization. Our design rationale was further validated through experimental testing of the proposed design. Overall, the USB-1553 adapter enables efficiency, versatility, and cost-effectiveness for the factory and field level avionics design verification tasks. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
