Due to different characteristics features of the distribution systems from the transmission systems, the conventional power flow algorithms such as; Newton Raphson and Gauss Seidel may become inefficient in the load flow solution of distribution systems. This problem required to develop new power flow algorithms for distribution systems. In this paper, a new power flow algorithm has been developed for balanced and unbalanced distribution systems. In addition, new modeling methods for distribution systems? components namely; Local Energy Generation Units, three-phase distribution transformers and Voltage Redulators have been developed and included to the load flow analysis. The performance and reliability of the developed load flow algorithm are evaluated on different distribution systems by comparing with other load flow algorithms which are widely used for load flow analysis. Results show that the developed algorithm has fast convergence ability and its performance is less affected by system?s parameters such as; different loading condition, line R/X ratios and load models. In the thesis, finally, to obtain the critical bus of the system to the voltage collapse a new voltage stability index is developed for radial distribution system by making use of the formulation which is used for the voltage calculation in the developed load flow algorithm. Developed stability index is tested on the different test systems and the obtained results are compared with the result of other stability indices. It is seen from the analyses that the developed stability index is robust and it can easily be implemented to the radial distribution systems, and does not require an extra work on the systems except load flow analysis, and can easily be applied to the radial networks. It is also seen that the proposed index is not affected from the different loading condition, load models, load power factor and voltage levels of the systems
