SSER Analysis of AF MIMO TWRNs with Single and Multiple Antenna Selection Schemes

Closed form expressions of exact moment generating function (MGF), and exact and asymptotic sum symbol error rate (SSER) for an antenna selection strategy, which selects multiple antennas at the sources and single antenna at the relay for both transmission and reception, are derived for two way amplify-and-forward (AF) multi-input multi-output (MIMO) relay networks over Raleigh fading channels. The exact closed form SSER expression is validated through Monte-Carlo simulation technique. Results show that the diversity order is min(NANR, N-B) and fewer antennas can be selected to reduce the complexity without a significant loss in performance with respect to full antenna selection at the sources, i.e., beamforming, where N-A, N-B, and N-R are the numbers of antennas at the sources and the relay, respectively and N-A < N-B.
