Spiropolymers are of interest as high performance materials due to their great rigidity and high thermal and chemical stability which arises because mass deterioration requires the scission of two covalent bonds within the same cyclic subunit.Aim of this thesis is the synthesis and characterization of a new series of spiropolymers. The thesis has three stages that 1) Synthesis of monomers 2) Synthesis and characterization of model compounds, and 3) Synthesis, characterization and properties of polymers. Model compounds have been synthesized by the condensation of multihydroxyl monomers with benzaldehyde. Condensations of the hydroxyl monomers with teraphtalaldehyde or isophtalaladehyde give the polyspiroacetals. Characterization of polymers conducted with FTIR, NMR, TGA, and DSC.Synthesized spiropolymers are thermally stable and have high degree of chemical stability. They are soluble in hexafluoroisopropanol.
