This thesis investigates the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) high-rise buildings equipped with BRB-outrigger systems through an energy-based analytical framework, with a particular focus on the contribution of buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) integrated into the core. The study is structured into three major components: (1) experimental validation of BRB elements, (2) assessment of seismic performance in mid-rise RC frames strengthened with BRBs under sequential earthquakes, and (3) a deformation- and energy-based comparison of outrigger locations in BRB-core and conventional RC-core tall buildings. In the mid-rise phase, nonlinear time-history analyses revealed that incorporating BRBs substantially reduces lateral displacements and inter-story drift demands, while promoting a more balanced distribution of seismic energy. Low axial stiffness ratios were shown to enhance energy dissipation, indicating that the mechanical efficiency of BRBs is strongly dependent on stiffness optimization and placement strategy. For high-rise buildings, the study demonstrates that the positioning of outrigger systems plays a critical role in governing both deformation demands and energy absorption mechanisms. Models employing BRB-core outriggers exhibited reduced top displacements, limited stiffness degradation, and improved control of cumulative damage under mainshock–aftershock sequences. Energy dissipation ratios, Park–Ang Damage Index (DI), and Maximum Inter-story Drift Ratio (MIDR) results indicated that outrigger configurations placed at combined levels (e.g., 0.33H–1.0H) delivered the most effective seismic response, achieving superior performance without imposing excessive accelerations or compromising ductility. Overall, the findings underline that BRB-integrated outrigger systems provide a robust and efficient seismic control mechanism for RC high-rise structures. By combining energy-based performance metrics with strategic outrigger placement, the thesis offers design-oriented insights to enhance the seismic resilience of tall buildings, particularly in regions susceptible to consecutive earthquake events.
