Özet

In recent years, the construction industry has realised a need to be environmentally responsible and has adopted activities and processes that minimise the negative environmental impacts. Therefore, building deconstruction can be used as a waste minimisation strategy in order to reduce the waste generated by the construction industry. Deconstruction also means dismantling buildings with the goal of maximising the recyle and re-use potentials of its components. This study explores the strategies that could be used for temporary earthquake houses in the efficient construction and demolition (C&D) waste management context for recycle and re-use of the temporary earthquake housing materials including infrastructure and superstructure. The study also focuses on ways to reduce the burden on landfills by focusing deconstruction process of temporary houses. The Turkey case will be analysed according to the life cycle of the temporary earthquake houses which covers construction, occupancy, dismantling and re-use phases of the temporary houses. Consequently, strategies for C&D waste management and sustainable temporary earthquake housing design were determined. In the context of preserving quality of liveable environment and the sustainability of natural resources, it is necessary to develop a strategy for the prevention/reduction of waste generation, and to encourage methods for recycling and re-use of construction materials/components.
