Özet

SO <inf>x</inf> emissions from anthropogenic sources, e.g., burning of fossil fuels and production of sulfuric acid can be controlled using various adsorbents. A novel heterogeneous method for the sulfonation of STY-DVB copolymer was proposed. SO <inf>2</inf> in the gas phase together with H <inf>2</inf>O <inf>2</inf> entrapped in the polymer were used as sulfonation agent, and sulfonated polymer with the sulfonation degree of 47% was obtained. The method can be developed for SO <inf>2</inf> removal from flue gas and emissions of sulfuric acid plants. H <inf>2</inf>O <inf>2</inf> treated polymer can keep its activity for 4 days after synthesis. Better storage conditions can be developed to increase the storage lifetime of the polymer.
