Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are a promising technology for clean energy production. In this study, we investigated the use of HEB as an electrolyte layer in an anode-supported SOFC with a two-layer YSZ/HEB electrolyte. Our results showed that the incorporation of HEB as an electrolyte layer decreased the activation polarization of the cells and enhanced cell performance, particularly at lower temperatures. We also examined the use of two distinct debinding mechanisms in the production of tubular SOFCs and their effects on cell performance. Our findings suggest that tubular SOFCs with an HEB material system could compete with traditional anode-supported planar SOFCs with a YSZ electrolyte, offering the potential for significant cost reductions in SOFC production. In addition, the parameters affecting the overpotential were examined using DRT and EIS to investigate the change in cathodic activation overpotential, and it was determined that activation overpotential were lower in cells where HEB electrolyte was used.
