In this work, electromagnetic wave propagation of a High Frequency, HF (5, 10, 15 MHz) radar is investigated by a Moving Window Finite Difference Time Domain method in two-dimensional Cartesian coordinates. Thus, a large scale problem is solved with a feasible computational time and memory. The problem space is constructed from a thin antenna located on the ground, sea and a conductive island on the sea. The antenna is excited by a Gaussian pulse. The problem space is terminated with a Mur type Absorbing Boundary Condition. In the first step of the thesis, the transmitter antenna is located on the land and observation points are located on the sea (bistatic case). In the second step, the transmitter and the observation point are located at the same position (monostatic case). First of all, in order to use in the second step, a window size is optimized by analyzing the parameters of the window size, frequency of operation in the first step. In the second step, the window size is fixed along the path from the antenna through the island, and then it is expanded on the island. Finally, the window size is fixed after the wave interaction finished. The calculated path losses and time dependent field variations are compared with the standard Finite Difference Time Domain method. Good agreements are observed between two methods.
