This study presents an overview on the apparent power definitions and power resolutions widely known in the literature. It is shown from the literature overview that there is a need for a power resolution, which can be used as a tool for the direct provision of the optimum compensation capacitor's power in unbalanced & nonsinusoidal systems. In addition to that, it is also mentioned that the modern power resolutions should be useful to detect the harmonic producing loads. © 2011 Chamber of Turkish Electric. © 2012 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
