The increasing need for sustainable and miniaturized energy sources has accelerated research on thermoelectric materials capable of harvesting waste heat. Among carbon-based systems, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been extensively studied for their remarkable electrical and mechanical properties, while graphene has emerged as another promising candidate due to its high conductivity and two-dimensional structure. Building on these advances, laser-induced graphene (LIG) offers additional advantages such as low-cost fabrication, mechanical flexibility, and excellent electrical conductivity. This thesis presents the synthesis, characterization, and device integration of LIG-based flexible thermoelectric materials. LIG was fabricated through the direct laser scribing of polyimide sheets using a CO? laser, and its structural, chemical, and morphological characteristics were extensively analyzed using SEM, XRD, FTIR, Raman, and XPS analyses. LIG powders were blended with PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride) to develop p-type thermoelectric composite films. The structural phase transformations of PVDF and filler dispersion were evaluated. In parallel, urea treatment was employed to achieve nitrogen doping, resulting in n-type LIG with altered surface chemistry. A flexible thermoelectric generator (TEG) was fabricated using both the n-type (urea-treated LIG) and p-type (PVDF-LIG) films, with native LIG films serving as interconnections. The device was assembled on a polyimide substrate and encapsulated with Kapton tape to ensure flexibility and environmental stability. The thermoelectric and electrical performance of the device was evaluated under various temperature gradients. Results demonstrated an output power of 1.91 nW and promising thermoelectric potential under moderate thermal conditions. Traditional inorganic thermoelectric materials often suffer from drawbacks such as high cost, brittleness, and limited mechanical flexibility, which hinder their widespread use in practical applications. In contrast, this work emphasizes the potential of LIG-based materials in next-generation, scalable, and flexible energy harvesting systems, offering a low-cost and mechanically robust alternative. The findings also establish a foundation for further development of carbon-based TEGs suitable for wearable and IoT-powered applications.
