The major need of all ages is to have renewable and clean energy. Many researchers have been working on this issue for years due to the limited fossil fuels and their harmful damages on the environment. In this aspect, hydrogen is considered as the most promising solution as a clean energy carrier of the future. It isn't a primary energy source, but it can be produced by using primary energy sources such as the sun. Combustion of hydrogen releases only water vapor to the atmosphere; so, hydrogen can be an ideal solution for sustainable carbon-free energy search. It can be produced in more than one way, such as electrocatalytic, photocatalytic, or photoelectrochemical water splitting. In the present thesis, photocatalytic water splitting was chosen as the most convenient methodology due to the direct production of hydrogen gas by using only the sun and water. Ideal hydrogen production can be achieved by separating water into its components using renewable energy. The most important point in this process is the design and development of materials that can efficiently split water, store, and convert energy. For this aim, designing novel photocatalysts to split water efficiently is the first step. In the current work, photocatalyst candidates were chosen as metal organic frameworks from the porous organic-inorganic class and MXene phases from transition metal carbides, nitrides, or carbonitrides as 2D materials. Coordination polymerstructures have high surface area, functionalizable crystalline and controllable structure, and tunable band gap; they have been chosen in the photocatalytic hydrogen production applications. MXene has a large surface area, rich surface functional and terminal groups, very high electrical conductivity (6000-8000 S cm-1 ), abundant active sites, hydrophilic nature, high mechanical strength, and chemical stability. It is expected that the planned composite structure will increase the stability of the coordination polymers and prevent the recombination of the MXene sheets. The main objective of the proposed thesis is to synthesize a new MXene-based cyclotriphosphazene-derived coordination polymer and MOF catalysis by preparing their hybrid composites and investigating their efficiency in photocatalytic water splitting. According to our best knowledge from the literature, the present thesis will be the first example of cyclotriphosphazene-derived Coordination polymer/MXene and MOF/MXene composites for photocatalytic water splitting application. With the present study, it was aimed to prepare novel photocatalyst candidates for the catalysis technology and eliminate or improve the restrictive aspects of efficiency.
