Issue of municipal solid waste and the process of its management in solution

Abstract

Municipal solid wastes are accepted less harmful than the other kind of wastes in terms of environmental and public health depending on the process of their occurrence. The wastes determined as municipal wastes involve malfunctioned forms of products such as organic substance, plastic, textile, paper, wood, metal and glass. The proportion of these substances is being changing in accordance with the cultural structure and life standards of societies. In the world, there are various approaches for controlling municipal solid wastes. Yet the methods used for the solution of the problem have been insufficient in their own. The gretest problem arising from solid waste is primarily the increasing amount of these wastes with each passing day. The focus of the studies performed recently on this issue is to immobilize the amount of waste or at least slow down the rate of increase. However, nowadays, it is clear that the situation will conflict with the economic policies supporting the consumption growth and needs long-termed studies. For waste management the necessity of building on the acceptance of waste raw materials by taking into account the durability of needs and limitedness of natural sources is obvious. Generally, a successful waste management should keep various eliminating methods together and be supported with laws in order to get ahead with the methods applied. The significant point in here, and particularly within the scope of waste-raw material relation, is that any society being in the position of producer should be a part of the process of waste management and be encouraged to increase efficiency of recycling. As well as increasing the success of recycling processes by allocating responsibility to its producer with regard to recognizing and separating its waste, the control of hazardous wastes arising from domestic use also gains importance. Thus, enabling municipal wastes to be in less harmful position will lead to progress in the context of the environment protection in a short time. © 2012 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
