Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method based on iteratively solving the Maxwell equations discretized in time and space is a numerical time domain method. In this thesis, two subjects are investigated by using FDTD.The first subject is the investigation of the resonant modes of a cavity filled with a dispersive dielectric by using FDTD. For this aim, FDTD update equations of the dispersive materials are derived and then solved within the cavity model. The effects of dispersive materials to the field distributions and the resonant modes of the cavity are investigated and the numerical examples are given. The second subject is the prediction of the Radar Cross Section (RCS) of the objects illuminated by an electromagnetic surface wave over the sea surface by using FDTD. Surface wave is a refraction of a plane wave without any reflections and propagates along the interface between the sea and the air by tightly bounding to the surface. In this work, interaction of an object over the sea only with surface wave is simulated by FDTD and the far field transformations belong to the surface wave are derived. Since the propagation factor of the surface wave is different from the plane waves?, a new RCS definition for the surface wave is given and application results are shown.
