On complex irreducible characters of finite groups and their zeros

Abstract

Sonlu bir G grubu için, G'nin bir indirgenemez karakteri, bazı özel koşulları sağlayan G'den kompleks sayılara giden bir fonksiyondur. Eğer ?(x) = 0 olacak şekilde G'nin bir indirgenemez karakteri varsa, x eşlenik sınıfına sıfırlanan sınıf denir. Bu x elemanına G'nin sıfırı denir. Aslında, bu tezde kullanılacak notasyona göre, bu sıfırlanan sınıftan ?-sıfırlanan sınıfı olarak bahsedilecektir. G'nin Irr(G) ile gösterilen indirgenemez karakterler kümesi ile Van(G) ile gösterilen sıfırlanan sınıflar kümesi arasındaki ilişki farklı yazar grupları tarafından ele alınmıştır. Ayrıca, değişmeli olmayan basit bir grup G'nin sıfırlanan sınıflarının tek-kare-serbest boyutları üzerine bazı sonuçlar veriyoruz.

For given a finite group G, an irreducible character of G is a map from G to the complex numbers satisfying some special conditions. A conjugacy class x of G is called a vanishing class if there exists an irreducible character of G such that ?(x) = 0. The element x is called a zero of G. Actually, this vanishing class will be mentioned as a ?-vanishing class with respect to the notation that will be used in this thesis. The relation between the set of G's irreducible characters denoted by Irr(G) and the set of vanishing classes denoted by Van(G) has been considered by different groups of authors. In this thesis, we focus on the relation between the number of vanishing classes of a finite group and the group structure. In particular, we consider the non-solvable groups each of whose vanishing class sizes are divisible at most two prime numbers. Moreover, we give some results on odd-square-free sizes of vanishing classes of a non-abelian simple group G.
