Özet
The development of CRISPR-Cas gene editing technology made it possible to modify genes and produce plants with specific traits. After cereals, root, and tuber crops are the second largest source of carbohydrates in the world. They also supply a few minerals and vital vitamins for human health. In order to enhance reproduction, self-incompatibility, abiotic-biotic resistance, nutrient content, and postharvest variables, the use of CRISPR-Cas editing technology has become more important as a result of the nutritional and advantageous qualities of these crops. Additionally, it is employed to create products devoid of transgenes. This chapter will give a brief overview of recent gene editing applications of CRISPR-Cas technology on root and tuber crops like potato, sweet potato, cassava, yam, and carrot. © 2024 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
